Fourth & Gill is a historic neighborhood, which means homes must be built and renovated with strict adherence to specific Fourth & Gill design guidelines. You should check with the Historic Zoning Commission and the Metropolitan Planning Commission prior to making any changes to your home.

Neighborhood Parking

Given its historic nature, many homes in Fourth & Gill were built before the advent of the automobile. Some homes feature carriage houses and others driveways but whether you are a resident or visitor to the neighborhood, some street parking is appropriate; however, please be advised that Knoxville parking ordinances are enforced within the Fourth & Gill neighborhood. These include:

There is to be no street parking:

*within 5 feet of an alley or driveway

*within an alley

*facing in the wrong direction

*within 30 feet of a stop sign

*within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

*more than 12 inches from the curb

*within 20 feet of an intersection

*within 25 feet of a crosswalk

Additionally, it is illegal for a vehicle to be parked on a public street for more than 24 hours.

These regulations are meant to enhance safety and the quality of life within Knoxville.
